THE TWO THAT STARTED IT ALL

Before You Buy A Siberian Husky
The Siberian Husky is a "Northern breed" that originated from Northeastern Asia by the Chukchi people. They were bred for endurance sled pulling and are still very active in that aspect today! The state of Alaska still holds their yearly Iditarod race in which Siberian Huskies play an integral part. Many Siberian owners like to keep their dogs active and working by pulling sleds for competitions or leisure. While Siberian Huskies do best in cooler temperatures, they can adjust to virtually any climate, given they are provided with appropriate shelter, food, and water.
Siberian Huskies are a very friendly breed and are known for their escape tactics! They should be kept in a securely fenced-in area or taken out of the home on a lead or they will escape. They are very quick and difficult to catch! They are not guard dogs! They do best in a pack environment; meaning they enjoy the company of people and other dogs. This also means that they do not like to be left alone! Siberian Huskies can get separation anxiety which will cause them to be destructive when left alone; having a furry friend to keep them company can help with this. They can be dangerous if around small animals due to their high prey drive, but have been known to do well with cats and small dogs if introduced to them early in life.
Siberians are a very intelligent breed, but also very stubborn! They will not follow commands if they do not see a benefit from it. Our dogs will do anything for a treat! They also tend to be fairly healthy dogs if taken in for regular veterinary visits and given a good diet. The breed suffers mostly from issues with their eyes including Hereditary Cataracts, Corneal Dystrophy, Progressive Retinal Atrophy; they can also be susceptible to Hip Dysplasia, as with any medium to large breed.
Here at Novel Siberians we love Siberian Huskies, and we hope you will too! We want all of our buyers to be as well-informed as possible before deciding to add a new puppy to their life because we understand how big of a responsibility that is. Please consider all of the serious aspects of getting a puppy as well as all of the great, fun, and exciting parts of it.
